Reinvesting

While many of our competitors are pulling in the reigns, we keep investing in our business.  There things in the fly in fishing business that are almost as important as the fish.  Unlike some in our industry charging more and giving less, we have held our rates and strive to give more.

Top of the line equipment makes a day in the boat a pleasure as opposed to a chore.  To keep Ignace Outposts position as a leader rather than a follower, we continue with upgrades, even when times are tough.  We are sure that as things begin to settle in the world economic situation, our company will be standing tall as the premier fly in fishing destination in the northwest part of Ontario.

Yesterday Randy and  I ventured to Thunder Bay to pick up 22 new Mercury outboard motors for our camps.  Putting money back into what makes out trips so desirable – time on the water - is what makes us stand out from the pack.

If you haven’t decided on your 2011 fly in trip yet, check us out.  Ignace Outposts is not here for the short term.  25 years of exceeding expectations is history.  We are now working on the next 25 years.

Trip Planning – what if…

Our camps are remote.  They offer solitude, great fishing, a little feeling of getting away from it all.  That is what makes an Ignace Outposts fishing trip so intriguing.

One concern as our guests begin to age however, is the question of “what if… ?”  We do have two way radio communication to Ignace for emergency, but there are times we can’t fly.  We can not fly if the weather is below minimums (which happens a fair bit), we can not fly after dark and there are time when all our aircraft are out on a trip and we are not able to dispatch an aircraft immediately.

The cost of extra flights, even if we do it, can also be quite high.

We always advise our guests, particularly guests from another country such as the USA, to check their health insurance provider regarding coverage for out of country evacuation and care.  Health care in Canada is very good but can be very expensive for non residents.  There are also considerations regarding transportation/evacuation for medical reasons.

If you are planning a fly in trip in a remote part of Canada such as with us, you may want to consider some of the options offered by Global Rescue.  Global Rescue is a premier provider of medical evacuation services worldwide.  They rescue their members from their point of injury or illness and bring them back to their home country hospital of choice. Check out their plans and do your own planning.

Just a thought.

Just as we thought spring was on is its way, more snow.  Such is life in the North.

Hockey week

This evening the 2011 Allan Cup (men’s Senior AAA Hockey National Championship) begins in Kenora.  Our son Mike who many of you know as growing up working for us, is playing for the Kenora Thistles.

We will be attending this week long event and then next week begin the countdown for another great fishing season.  Lots of work to do between now and walleye opener to get ready.

Good luck Mike and the Thistles.

A little Trivia: The Kenora Thistles’ last National Championship was the Stanley Cup in 1907.
