Moose On

Our fishing parties are officially over for the season. This is unfortunate since the fishing is nothing but exceptional right now.

We have a few archery moose hunting parities out now. The rifle hunters arrive in a week or so. Besides moose hunting they can partake in some great walleye fishing. The northern are hitting too.

It is hard to believe these photos were taken in mid Sept at Seseganaga Lake. Fall fishing is definitely worth the trip. Sometimes the weather is really this good. I don’t think the past June had weather this nice. It sure beats the snow we had yesterday.

     Thanks again for another spectacular late season vacation. Look forward to next year. Sent some of the pictures we took on the trip. Cards are arriving

Some guests have been contacting us about receiving their Ontario Outdoors cars in the mail… finally.  These are not credit cards but new government cards which should (theoretically) make issuing a fishing license easier and more painless – no more squinting to fill out microscopic forms in the early morning hours while half awake and anxious to go fishing. 

Now that the cards have been mailed out, they will replace the pink temporary card/paper you received when you bought the license. 

These cards are part of what you purchased with your fishing licenses this summer while in Ontario.  The cards are good for 3 years so be sure to hang on to them.  If you have a Canada/Ignace box of stuff ready to go at a moments notice on a fly in trip with Ignace Outposts you might want to put it in there. If not, besides getting such a box, find a spot to keep your outdoors card where you won’t forget it on your next trip to fish in our fine province.  If you do forget your card next summer, you will need to purchase a new one and fill out another microscopic form, likely early in the morning.

Something else to do

On an Ignace Outposts fly-in vacation, fishing is often the primary objective. 

There are other things to do too.

A little exploration adds some variety to just catching 100’s of fish.

Summer Walleye

I don’t know why some guys sit in the cabin when the lake is calm and the sun is high. In fact many don’t even consider a summer trip because there is misconception that walleye don’t bite in the summer. 

How wrong can you be.  Our waters stay cold the the walleye like to eat.  What more can I say.

Father and Son on Flindt Lake

“Once again I can not express in words what a great time we had and how great of an operation you run. Makes one feel like we are part of the family when we come up for a visit!! Fishing being as great as it is does not hurt either. Just wanted to share some of the pictures.  The Walleye(23") was caught not 50 yds from the cabin and released.  Thanks again for the wonderful "Father and Son Vacation."

Eric and his son Connor spent a week on Flindt Lake in early August.  I have mentioned many times before, don’t miss the chance to take your son (or daughter) fishing. Ten, 15 or 20 years down the road, these are the memories that will mean something.  You will not even think about that extra day you worked nor the few dollars it cost.  Ignace Outposts is the premier Canadian destination for this type of trip.  Now is a great time to start thinking about 2010.

Pitching in

The jobs at an outpost camp are always best shared.  Working together is better than having one person do all the work. 

While Karen is cleaning up some dishes, Bill is preparing his world famous Ceasar salad.

Once the prep and work part is done, everyone can sit down and enjoy the meal and evening with good conversation and a few laughs.

Joe is ready

Joe, our camp attendant at Seseganaga, gets to fish now and then himself.  Fresh walleye for supper is a nice perk of the job.  Once he gets his work done for the day nothing beats a little R&R on the lake.

He is not lonely in the bush but he would still like to have you visit.

A little R&R

Wisconsin Dells is known as a great vacation destination. The resorts there are fantastic and draw folks from all over the world. But, the big question is “where would someone from the Dells go to vacation?’ I know where they go. Metionga Lake is as fine a destination as there is. Pete and Tom leave the Dells each year with a crew of guys and head up to Canada.

I know that even those who live in a resort area need a little break now and then. Metionga Lake is just one of our many outpost lakes that offer fine walleye and northern fishing, not to mention a well needed break.

Long time coming

Jim Hughes (l) and Frank Kapple (r) have been regular May guests each of the 24 years we’ve been in Ignace.  In fact Frank hasn’t missed an Ignace fly-in trip since the early 60’s.

Great to see you guys again.  We’ll see you in 2010, Lord willing.

Fish story platform

Spring time keeps us busy getting camps open and equipment moved but regular jobs also get done.

The cabin at West Bay on Seseganaga Lake now has a new deck.

Even though fishing is the reason most guys head to Seseganaga, one of the best conservation techniques we have developed on our lakes is the construction of good decks.

It is amazing how the worries and cares of the world slide away when one slips into “Camp Time”.

The fish stories this new deck will hear over the next few years could fill a book.

All in a week

Don from Iowa was at Seseganaga lake last week with a few buddies. 

Fishing of course is a main event at an outpost camp, but a sampling of Don’s photos from the week show many reasons to make an Ignace Outpost vacation.

Keep in mind these are not zoo animals but part of North America’s southern most caribou herd.

WOW!

Even tho’ I see this type of view almost daily, I am still impressed. The Northwestern part of Ontario is magnificent to say the least.

When the much anticipated fishing trip is over, parting seems such a sweet sorrow.  These fellas from Wisc have made well over a dozen years in a row, but even before they load the vehicle to drive home, they are booked in for another year. 

One the greatest satisfactions of almost a quarter century running one of the finest fly in fishing businesses in the country is the satisfaction of our guests.

Brad is SICK!

Yes, I am sick. Nothing to do with H1N1 or other exotic virus. I have that annual sickness that strikes on the third Sat in May. I have a bad case of “Walleye Fever”. This illness manifests itself like clockwork and leaves me in a state of duress until the remedy is applied. What makes it more severe for me is that I apply the remedy professionally to many many sufferers of this malady with little thought of healing myself. I guess you could say I am a doctor of sorts.

The only known cure!

If you find yourself with a twitching wrist, an overwhelming desire for fresh air and cold sweats when you think of things you could be doing rather than work, you may have the “Fever”.

Give me a call. Talking about walleye will help with the symptoms but a cure of the disease is really required. Getting your 2009 trip booked will certainly set you on the path to recovery... at least until the 3rd Sat in May next year.
