Irene Lake bass attack

Irene Lake may be a fair haul from Eastern Tennessee, but when the boys get together, it is the smallmouth bass attack that keeps them busy.

An oxymoron

How can a smallie be big?  On Irene Lake… that’s how.

With controlled enthusiasm I believe I am fairly accurate making a safe bet that Irene Lake is the only choice for big smallies. Some guys will catch these fish with casual formality as though it was old news while forming a new tradition with Ignace Outposts. Recent history proves that the non-stop flight to Irene Lake can be an instant classic. I am hopelessly optimistic that catching fish in a random order does not result in any fictional truths. The picture tells the story.

I was almost surprised that this bass was a little big.

The guys drive from Arkansas to fish the smallies on Irene Lake.   Getting reports like this makes our job very rewarding.

Lunch and a fight

Irene Lake is one of these lakes that feature multiple species.  Of course walleye are great for shore lunch while nothing fights like a small mouth.

Smallies

Irene Lake has small mouth bass.  The drive from Arkansas may seem long for these fellows but it is well worth it when on the rod end of a fight with feisty small mouth.

Gamble Lake - "the Sure Bet!"

Gamble lake is a world-class small mouth bass and lake trout fishery.

It has great Northern Pike too!

It is unparalleled in quantity and quality of these species. Pound for pound the small mouth is the greatest fighter and most exciting fish in this area. They are commonly found in rocky lakes with many crevasses and overhangs which are found in abundance in this lake. Gamble lake is the head water of the renowned Gamble river system.

more from last weekend

OK so it wasn't all work. Last weekend after the job list was done, we did get a little fishing time in.

Fall fishing isn't always non-stop catching but it is well worth the time on the lake. We caught northern, bass and lake trout but the walleye were not cooperating. It happens on the best of lakes sometimes. Perhaps with the Lake Trout preparing to spawn the walleye get a little concerned with those voracious eaters moving into their territory.

Reminds me of my football playing days. I didn't want to let go of the ball then either.

My "un" cousin Neil Greaves with a slot size northern. Same name - no relation.

Neil fighting up a northern from the deep. It was hooked about 50 down.

ps being on the top of hill isn't so bad... now for the slid down the other side.

Need I say more? Smallies are a thrill to catch. Don't believe me? Come and try it your self.

Father and son

Jim Harnish and his son Toby spent a few quality days together at Irene Lake. They flew out this morning all smiles and thrilled with the time spent together. This was their first fly out experience and one that will provide fish tales and memories to be shared for many years to come. My bet is that 20 years from now there will be no regrets of having not done an adventure together like this. As Mark Twain wrote "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Explore. Dream. Discover."

Weather was sunny and clear with some of the best days we've had this year in regards to sun and warm.

The small mouth bass kept the guys occupied.

Who out fished who has not been determined. I suppose a return adventure will be needed to settle the argument.

I do not know of many other ways a father and son can experience the wilderness and share time together like this. Even if fishing is slow the father /son experience makes the trip worth every penny.

Take your son (or father) fishing at Ignace Outposts.

Ignace Outposts Video

With all the technology available now with the internet, I have to do a little learning about posting videos. Here is a little video that I put together as a promo about our business. As I learn more, I'll try to get more things like this up on the net. This little blurb is only 1:40 long so enjoy. It is meant to get your fishing desires flowing.
Fishing at Ignace Outposts can be the experience of a life time. However since vacations are mandatory, rather than optional for sound mind and body, why not do it again?
